3rd MC/WG meeting – Valencia, Spain

The third Management Committee (MC)/Working Group (WG) meeting of COST Action AtheroNET CA21153, hosted in the vibrant city of Valencia from 28th February to 1st March 2024, concluded successfully under the auspices of the local organiser Susana Novella de Campo and her team from the University of Valencia and INCLIVA – Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria. The event drew an impressive attendance, with over 80 researchers from throughout Europe converging to share insights and advancements in the field of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). This gathering included 42 MC members and 29 Young Researchers and Innovators (YRIs), showcasing the collaborative spirit and expertise within the AtheroNET network.

One of the highlights was the compelling keynote address presented by Professor Arnold von Eckardstein, Director of the Institute of Clinical Chemistry and Editor-in-Chief of Atherosclerosis. Professor von Eckardstein’s presentation delved deeply into the potential of omic approaches to unravel the complex interplay between metabolism and the structure-function-disease relationships of high-density lipoprotein (HDL). The meeting was further enriched by WG roundtables and scientific presentations, which ignited deep discussions on the current methodological and translational challenges in the field. These exchanges highlighted the shared dedication of AtheroNET members to driving innovation and fostering collaboration to improve ASCVD outcomes.

Additionally, the poster presentation sessions led by YRIs were particularly inspiring. These sessions not only facilitated engaging conversations but also showcased the promising future of the field, securely in the hands of an emerging generation of researchers. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Brooke Wolford, Thalía Belmonte and Bianca Descals Beltrán for receiving awards for their exceptional poster presentations. Their work exemplifies the cutting-edge research and passion that characterise the next wave of leaders in the field.

We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the local hosts, scientific co-organizers, session chairs, and all participants for their contributions to the success of this event. Their dedication and enthusiasm enrich the community and drive forward the boundaries of ASCVD research.

We eagerly anticipate the opportunity to reconvene and build upon our discussions at next year’s meeting. Until then, we encourage you to review the insights and outcomes of this year’s gathering by visiting the link to the meeting’s programme.
